A Reflection on the Sporting Achievements in Anguilla for the Year 2015
As we look back over the year 2015 the most memorable sporting occasion for the island has to be the Samoa 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.
A team of 5 athletes participated on behalf of Anguilla in the long jump, 100m, 200m, 400m, lawn tennis singles and doubles; the tennis doubles team bringing home a bronze medal, which was great!
These 5 young athletes were honoured to represent Anguilla and took the opportunity to make new friends from all over the world. They will always remember the hospitality of the Samoan people who went overboard to accommodate everyone.
Other Anguillian born athletes like Shara Proctor who achieved a personal best in the long jump, and won the silver medal for Great Britain in the Beijing Diamond League Championships held in China; Zharnel Hughes who came 5 in his race against the best in the field and achieved a personal best of 10.02sec in the 200m sprint, fills the whole island with pride, especially when we consider all this talent has been developed on our Grass Track. Can you imagine what we can produce with a synthetic track?
As we work towards the next Youth Games in 2017 and the Senior Games in 2018, we, at the Anguilla Commonwealth Games Association, would like to wish all our athletes, followers and friends a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
